Subject: Donna Jean Band Smoking!
I was fortunate enoguh to see this set at the Gathering of the Vibes and it just rocked my world! This is a pretty nice recording, and really captures the spirit of the set. Tear My Stillhouse Down--what a great choice of song for this band! Gillian Welch would be proud! The DJGB rhythm section (Joe Chirco on drums, David MacKay on bass, and Freeman White on keys) just kills! The band's interpretation of Beatles' song She Said She Said has a wonderful jam, and speaking of jams--Don't Let Go put me in mind of some of the best and most outre Jerry Garcia Band versions with a long traveling jam that takes the listener to many places before it returns him safely to the melody. Jeff Mattson's guitar and vocals are outstanding, and Donna Jean sounds (and looks) gorgeous!
